There is no way to thank our moms for everything they have done for us. Now that I am a mom, I understand the sacrifices we mothers make for our children and the unconditional love we have for them.
Long before I knew about the terminology ‘love language’, I understood what the concept meant. My mom introduced me to that. Every person shows their love differently; some people buy gifts, some say the words, and some show it by acts of service. My mom belongs to the last category. She shows her love by actions, and it just comes to her naturally that way.
When I started having children in 2011, my mom was there every step of the way. She has visited Canada every year since then and stays for an extended period to help with my children. She did not visit in 2019 because I went home to see her; she hasn’t traveled to Canada since COVID. I miss my mom, and even though I see her almost daily on the video chat, it’s not the same.
My mom is the editor-in-chief of my blog. She supports me 100%. Some days I have no idea where I am going with any of it, but when I send her something to edit and get valuable feedback, I feel more equipped to try again. When I was entering University, and I had no idea what I wanted to do, my mom helped me pick a major that served me well for several years.
She loves all 10 of her grandchildren and makes an effort to be in their lives. She loves the ring of the word granny and wears it like a badge of honour. When my children do not have their way, they like to say they are going to granny’s house; I wish them luck with that.
My mom is a silent assassin, a no-nonsense person, but she has softened up considerably since having grandchildren, though she still will not entertain the idea of spoiling them rotten, maybe just a little. I think most parents become this way once they have grandchildren. It’s like time has taught them alternative ways of doing everything, they would have learned what worked and didn’t work with their children, and now they have better judgment.
Happy Mother’s Day, Mommy. This year is my mom’s 49th Mother’s Day Celebration. My prayer is that she lives to enjoy many more in health. Thank you, mommy, for all that you have done and all that you continue to do. We all love you.
