Let’s Talk Money
Let’s talk about money and having a wealth-building mindset. We are all familiar with the saying the rich get richer but have you ever really pondered why that may be? Since this pandemic started and has lashed us for six and continues to boast its staying power, 40 million Americans have filed for unemployment. Still, the billionaires, according to businessinsider.com, have had their net worth increase by half a trillion dollars. While many reasons could be impacting these stats, what I am most interested in is what is that group of people doing to stay at the top.
Many money myths are thrown around, such as money is the root of all evil, money does not mean happiness, and the long list continues. That type of talk subconsciously keeps us in an impoverished state. Yes, being contented is enough but if you look at it, being contented is selfish. What about the next generation if you are contented to do enough to get you by? Our job, I think, is to help the next generation to be that much further than we were. Just close your eyes and imagine how different your life would be right now if money were not an issue.
Having a Wealth Building Mindset!
Billionaires have a particular mindset, they have a particular work ethic, they read, they hang out with other billionaires and they develop systems that make them money in their sleep. The average billionaire has about seven streams of income, while the average person has a job and that is how they are setting themselves up to fail. Jobs today are not like jobs in the day of our parents.
Employers are finding ways to cut expenses, so all the benefits that previously came with a job are almost non-existent. So many companies are going belly- up and so many persons are losing their pensions. Can you imagine dedicating 40 years of your life to a company and at the end of that period, there is nothing to collect? I’m not saying don’t get a job, do what you have to do but try to build something else for yourself so you eventually do not have to be chained to a desk, build something that can spell FREEDOM for you.
Entrepreneurial Mindset
Therefore, we must start thinking differently and training our children to think differently. Many people do not believe that education is the way to go but I still believe in education. Education opens doors. Education builds networks. Imagine a child growing up in abject poverty and a chance at University is his only way out. He can change the landscape of his future generations. I like a balance of education and business. A mix of book smarts and street smarts. We must have an entrepreneurial mindset. An entrepreneurial mindset with education is golden. Many billionaires, like Bill Gates, that is a college dropout, may not have the structured degree type education but he is an avid reader. That is how he educated himself.
My Current Role
My main goal was to potty train the twins at the pandemic’s beginning. My other plans included getting them to recognize their letters and two and three-letter words. I wanted Eli and Anayah to be a grade up with their studies. Then something happened; Eli had an assignment where he had to describe what his parents do for a living. For his dad, he had options like businessperson, entrepreneur, engineer, and for me, he said my mom stays at home and takes care of us.
Me being at home is purely by choice, but that description struck a chord. I want my children to know that this is a choice I made for them. I want them to know that I sacrificed four to five years before they head off to school. To be there for them, to be present for them. I am more than just a stay-at-home mom; I am an educator, the finance person, the accounts person, the nutritionist, and the long list continues, but my role was watered down to my mom stays at home.
Loading A Wealth Building Mindset
This is the hand most women who choose to stay in the home are dealt. I decided my girls must see another side of mommy. They need to see me as that fierce woman with goals and dreams and plans to make each goal materialize. Every night when I put the children to bed, I retreat to our home office and study someone I want to be like. It is a long list, but I will get through it. Right now, I am reading Becoming by Michelle Obama. I love her story and what she has built for herself. Now my goals for this pandemic are more than potty training. My new goals are now to build my business. My girls must see their mom as the woman who could, the woman who did, and the woman with a billionaire mindset. Loading Billionaire mindset…. Loading.
These are good points to building confidence and working towards wealth. It helps to have the right attitude and mindset.
Thank you, mindset is everything.
Such a positive post and one which has inspired me to build a better mindset and in becoming better. Becoming by Michelle Obama is a fabulous book to read
Thank you. I enjoyed Becoming so much. I plan to reread it this year.
I do think that stay at home mum isn’t fully representative of what mums actually do. I don’t know which mindset I have x
Yea, stay-at-home moms are fantastic. We do it all.
I’ve tried to have an entrepreneurial mindset for most of my life. I feel like that’s how I’ve gotten so much accomplished.
It’s a great mindset to have. Being an entrepreneur is not for the faint of heart. Congratulations on all of your accomplishments.
It is good for our kids to see us building ourselves up. That’s true even when they’re grown.
So true.
I work from home and have my own business. Mine all work hard and do school work straight away as that is how they’ve been taught and shown to do. Good luck with the studying. You can achieve anything you put your mind to.
Congratulations on your own business, and indeed the school route is what most of us are taught and shown.
Well said. Go for it billionaire mom ????
Thank you Moranda!
